The latest Java Posse episode (#317) features a short segment (start around 51:45) of the posse talking about the Strange Loop conference. The Java Posse are giving away four FREE (as in beer) tickets based on a contest.
The contest is: "Write the strangest loop" (any language is ok). You should post your answer to the JavaPosse Google group and list the number (out of 4) you possibly could use. The answer will be judged by the posse (and me!).
Today I'm introducing a new promotional program for bloggers!
If you write a blog about your experiences at the Strange Loop 2009 conference OR why you're excited about attending Strange Loop 2010 between now and Thursday Aug. 5th, I will give you a choice between:
- A discount code for $25 off on Strange Loop 2010 registration. If you've already registered, I'll send you a refund
- A t-shirt from Strange Loop 2009
To participate:
I have added a Student attendee rate of $100 due to the continuing interest from students at local schools like Washington University, SIU Edwardsville, etc. If you are a student and can supply a valid ID at registration time, then feel free to register at this rate!
I have released the full schedule for Strange Loop 2010 and it is (in my humble opinion) a truly mind-blowing set of talks and speakers.
Check out these keynotes:
- Guy Steele (Oracle) - "How to Think about Parallel Programming: Not!"
- Douglas Crockford (Yahoo) - "Heresy and Heretical Open Source: A Heretic's Perspective"
- Billy Newport (IBM) - "Enterprise NoSQL: Silver Bullet or Poison Pill?"
- Hilary Mason (bit.ly) - "Machine Learning: A Love Story"
Time for an update on Strange Loop 2010!
Particulars
Strange Loop is sold out! I didn't think it would happen, but the conference is full with 300 people registered. It should be a great event, hope to see you soon.
I've updated the session schedule if you want to plan your conference: Session Grid.
Check out Strange Loop merchandise here: Merchandise.
Strange Loop is two weeks away!
I've had several groups register this week and there are only 4 spots left. If you're interested in registering, now is the time. I think it's almost certain that the conference will sell out, so there will not be any on-site registration at the conference.
Thanks everyone for making it such a great turnout!
At this point things are coming together and I'll be posting some final schedule info and other details soon.
Today is the last day for $110 registration. If you know someone planning on registering for Strange Loop today is a fabulous day.
If you have a group of 5 or more from your company and the company is paying for it, you can get a special group rate (regardless of the deadline) - please contact me at strange.loop.stl@gmail.com for more info.
The $110 registration level expires one week from today! It will then go to $130 till the conference. If you've been procrastinating on registration, then this coming week is the time to do it! Why not register right now?
Just a few quick updates on Strange Loop.
- There have been a couple of speaker cancellations from Robert Fischer and Michael Ernst and unfortunately they won't be able to speak this year. I'm really sorry to lose those great talks. But fortunately.....
- I have added a talk about Apache Cassandra from Stu Hood
