How Objects Which Don't Exist Fooled Astronomers

Posted by JSchmitz

This talk is not about philosophy! I can't stand it when someone tells me I don't exist!

Instead, I propose a talk about astronomy. I'll introduce a brief history and then talk about a set of astronomical objects which:

  • are among the most distant objects ever discovered
  • are among the brightest objects in the universe but you can't see them
  • can be observed, but don't exist
  • upon their discovery made some question some important theories about astronomy
  • are interesting to me, at least
